Wyoming Park United Methodist Church

We build capacity by teaching and coaching our members to serve.

My name is Kim DeLong, and I have been the pastor here at Wyoming Park since July 2017.

As a lifelong Methodist, I'm certain my blood cells have crosses and flames embedded on them. Coldwater, Michigan was the town in which I grew up, and Coldwater UMC the church that nurtured my faith and the faith of my parents and siblings. I often dreamed of becoming a missionary as a child though ordained ministry never entered my mind.

That came much later after 15 years as a Medical Technologist, and active leadership in the Rockford UMC. My experience in professional ministry began as a Local Pastor, which led me to attend Garrett-Evangelical Theological School in order to be ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. After serving as Deacon I began to discern a call to move my ordination status to that of Elder, which I earned in 2016. Ministry has taken me to Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Turk Lake, Greenville, and most recently to a three-point charge in Big Rapids which included Paris, Third Avenue, and Rodney United Methodist Churches.

My husband Cameron (Cam) and I live in Rockford. We have three adult children and four grandchildren, and one lovable labradoodle, Lily.

Cam and I look forward in anticipation to what God will do as we work together as the body of Christ, pointing to the hope of the Good News, offering peace and justice to a hurting world.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Kim

Dave Borda is our KIDS HOPE USA director, and took the lead with our program in 2016.  He is actively involved in recruiting and training mentors to work one-on-one with a student from Parkview Elementary School. Dave and his wife, Sue, have been active members of WPUMC for over 25 years and have four grandchildren.

A prayer partner is matched with each mentor/student pair to surround and support the team with prayer during the mentoring hour.  We believe meeting for one hour, with one child, once a week can make a difference in the life of a child by showing them they are important enough to spend time with each week.  Our mentors and prayer partners are "Jesus with skin on" to the life of a child.

Bertram Sluys has been praise team leader at Wyoming Park since September 2011, planning music into the worship services and leading the praise team.  Bertram spent 16 years traveling with Covenant Players, a Christian repertory theatre ministry, performing drama and music across North America and Europe and now has his own music and dramaministry, Slice of Life.  His visions include providing an atmosphere where all musicians in the church have a safe place to serve, learn and grow, and getting out of the way to let God lead the congregation into his presence week by week.
